Who is Laishram Bombayla Devi?

Laishram Bombayla Devi (1985 – ) is an Indian archer from the state of Manipur. She represented India at the 2008 Beijing Olympics for the Individual Recurve womens event. This is an archery event using a bow whose tips are bent away from the archer. It offers more resistance and stability than other bow shapes.

Where did she grow up?

Laishram was born on 22nd February 1985 in Imphal, Manipur. Her family is steeped in sports. Her mother is also an archer and teaches archery. Her mother encouraged her a great deal in her sport. Bombayla Devi’s father was Manipur state’s handball coach. In order to get ahead in her sport Laishram joined the Sports Authority of India where she trained to the level she now competes at.

What are some of her achievements?

Laishram has won multiple medals in her event and although she was unable to deliver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

  • Gold medal with Indian Team at 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi.
  • Gold medal in 2011 Archery World Cup in Shanghai.
  • Silver medal in World Archery Championships in Italy.
  • Has won a medal at every Archery World Cup from 2011 till 2016.
  • Awarded the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri from the Government of India.
