Story Telling Event for Kids!
A story-telling event exclusively for children between the age group of 2 to 12, the Kahaani Karnival made its debut in Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya on January 25, 2014 from 10:15 a.m till 7p.m. This carnival was a roller coaster ride for children with exciting games, fun story telling sessions, museum walks, creative art sessions, puppetry, ‘meet the author’ sessions and an exciting shadow theatre.
Kahaani Karnival is a non-profit organization which hosts events for children, specifically in Mumbai, emphasizing on the importance of stories and storytelling and an appreciation of museum art.
We managed to capture the entire event and bring it to our Mocomag readers. Even if you were not there, you can still get a good glimpse of all the happenings in the magical land of storytelling!
Bhasha Building
The event started with a Hindi story telling ‘Bhasha Building’ by Samvedna, a poet, writer and an animated story teller. She took the kids to the lands of Akbar and Birbal, under the huge mango tree, sharing anecdotes and events from their lives in Hindi language.
Kahani Karnival saw many Indian authors like Shabnam Minwala, Parinita Shetty and Payal Kapadia, interacting with children and making them do certain activities which helped them bring out their creative storytelling sides.
Twinkle Toes
‘Twinkle Toes’ was an enjoyable activity where children went along with Prachi Jariwala, an Odhisi dancer, inside the Sculpture gallery of the museum. She told stories about the various avatars like Ganesh, Vishnu and Brahma, with the help of dance moves and ‘mudras’.
Many kids enjoyed and used their imagination to make various creatures and stories with Lego Blocks.
The ‘Walk the Talk’ with Shezia was a learning of facts in the Natural History section of the museum, a fun session as it was conducted by her muppet, Francois.
Mythimagic
Children had fun creating magical creatures in the art activity ‘Mythimagic’ by Madhumita. The class had two strict rules- one- you can do anything you want and second- No one should use any pencils!
Shadows Theatre
The best was saved for the end. Children entered the magical land of Alice in Wonderland with a fascinating stage performance by Tram Theatre using shadow art and puppetry. The use of lights, shadows and darkness made children gasp with fear and excitement.
The event ended leaving children wanting for more. An entire day had passed but they did not seem to get tired of the land of stories. “I loved the way the stories were told and I got to learn so many interesting facts about animals and bought some books as well. This was something very different and I would love to attend more such events”, summarized Kanav, 11 years, of D.A.V Public school Airoli.
