Chocolate prices to double by 2020!
You’re eating too much chocolate! Really!
Around 3.5 million tonnes of cocoa are produced each year to turn into chocolate, but much more will be needed to meet the ever increasing demand for chocolate. Especially in countries like China, where buying chocolate is still something of a novelty. For every person in, say, Britain, there are 20 people in China. And with population on the rise, that means more mouths that need chocolate and less hands to make it!
All the big chocolate makers are saying that increased demand for chocolate around the world could lead to a shortage by 2020, if cocoa production isn’t increased. And that means an increase in price for the heavenly bit of brown goodness.
Time to stash up eh?
