Who is Mary Kom?
Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom, or simply Mary Kom (born 1983 ) is a boxer from the Indian state of Manipur. She is a 5 time gold medallist in the World Boxing championships and participates in the flyweight class.
Where did she grow up?
Kom was born to a family of farmers in Kangethei, Manipur. Although she was unable to pass her 10th grade board exams, Kom’s determination led her to complete her degree with the National Institute of Open School.
How did Mary get into boxing?

A year after starting to train Mary competed at the Women’s World Boxing Championship and snagged a silver medal. The next year she moved on to gold and has consistently brought home a medal in almost all the competitions she has entered since.
