Journey - Game Review

Journey – Game Review

Journey’ is an adventure game published by Sony Computer Entertainment and is available on PlayStations 3 and 4. Developed by Thatgamecompany, it is very different from the other games available within the adventure category.

The landscape of the game consists of a vast barren desert, with a mountain in the distance. The robed figure, controlled by the player is making its way towards the goal of reaching the mountain. What is interesting about this game is that players can meet other players in the game, but cannot communicate with them via text or voice. They remain anonymous to one another through the course of the game, with names only being revealed in the end credits.

Players can choose to interact and help one another, despite the anonymity. The only form of communication available is through the sound of a musical chime, which transforms scraps of cloth into a bright red colour. This transformation plays a part in the player progressing further in the game.

What differentiates this game from others is that a player must take a personal call to choose to help or take assistance from other unknown players. This act forges an emotional bond between two players who may or may not know one another in the outside world.
