The Ice Hotel in Sweden, is the oldest ice hotel in the world. The temperature inside the hotel rooms ranges from -5 to -8 degrees Celsius.

Where is the Ice Hotel?

The Ice Hotel is located at Jukkaskarvi, a tiny village in Northern Sweden, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The village has only 1,100 residents. But each winter almost 50,000 guests from all over the world come to enjoy the experience of the Ice Hotel.

The Ice Hotel is built beside the Torne River in the village. The strangest fact about this hotel is that every year, during spring, the hotel melts and it has to be rebuilt from scratch for the next winter season!

How the Ice Hotel in Sweden is built?

The hotel is built with the help of the ice from the Torne River and “snice” which is a mix of ice and snow, used to make the structures strong. The construction of the hotel takes place during November and December.

Artists are invited to design the special structures and rooms. The designs and the themes of the hotel changes every year. The hotel is then opened for guests from December till mid-April, after which it starts melting, the water joining the Torne River again. The hotel also has a warm section, not made from ice, for guests who feel cold.

How do guests stay warm inside the Ice Hotel?

Every bed and sofa is covered with reindeer skin . Guests are advised to keep their warm clothes, hats and gloves on and sleep in thermal sleeping bags.
