Book Review : Wisha Wozzariter

Writers | 7-14 yrs | Reading Pod

Do you like asking “what if” questions? You could be a writer! Wisha Wozzariter (say that out carefully and see how it sounds) wanted to be a writer. This book, written by Payal Kapadia, won the Crossword Children’s Book Award last year.

What it’s about

It is an imaginative story of Wisha, a 10 year old girl who wants to become a writer, but she has no idea how to begin. She meets Bookworm, and then catches the Thought Express to idea land.

The description of the Marketplace of Ideas will remind you of Enid Blyton’s Faraway Tree. We all know of good ideas, but can you name some bad ideas? Slavery’s one, the Bookworm tells Wisha.

‘A mouse?’ cried Wisha in disbelief. ‘A mouse! And why did she just turn purple before my eyes?’

‘Er, this mouse has a rather strange—or shall we say special—quality . . .’ said Mr Frugal, looking a little embarrassed.

Wisha said nothing. In her mind, she was trying to come to terms with the idea of a hero many sizes smaller than she had imagined her to be, and of the wrong colour.

‘She turns purple when she’s . . .’ and here, Mr Frugal paused to clear his throat. It was easy to see that he was uncomfortable about this.
‘. . . scared,’ he said finally. ‘She turns purple when she’s scared.’

In Conclusion

You will enjoy looking at the whimsical illustrations by Roger Dahl. This book is for everyone who has their imagination balloon and ‘Wisha-to-be- a-Writer.’ So catch your thought express and start writing.
